BRICK ROAD MITIGATION BANK

The Brick Road Mitigation Bank is a 3,000 acre mitigation bank located in Flagler County adjacent to the historic Old Brick Road at the Flagler/St. Johns county line.  The preservation and restoration of the property  will render a mosaic of pine flatwoods and deep swamps. These wetlands will form the back-bone for a large wildlife corridor and provide significant improvements to Big Cypress and Pringle Swamps, an important groundwater recharge area.

Both State and Federally approved, the Brick Road Mitigation Bank provides "regionally significant" mitigation for freshwater forested and herbaceous impacts in the St. Johns River Water Management  District's Pellicer Creek and Matanzas River Watershed (Basin 9) and Crescent Lake Watershed (Basin 16).

The Old Brick Road

The Old Brick Road was originally built to give early visitors to Florida a route from Michigan to Miami. The road construction was part of a sixty-six mile project completed in 1916 by St. Johns County. In 2005, the Old Brick Road was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
